Isabella's favorite book The Very Hungry Caterpillar was a must for her 3rd birthday and it was also such a success on a savvy budget!
I purchased this fabulous VHC tutu and matching headband from TulleMeAboutIt. And let me say she did not only do an awesome job but she did it in a timely manner. I think I only paid about $25 and thats with shipping included!
I hand made each and every invitation using ribbon, construction paper and glue stick
VHC Marshmallow pops centerpieces!
These were made with marshmallows and candy melts. To hold them up I used gum balls which were purchased at the dollar tree. I figured the gum balls can also work as a favor. So I put a little scooper in each center piece so guest can scoop their gum balls into a baggie. I had my friend Roxy from MKR make the VHC thank you labels.
The banner was made out of paper plates purchased from oriental trading after christmas sale items (hence the colors) which worked out perfect for the theme. The letters were made on the computer and simply glued on to each plate. After trial and error, I hole punched the side of each plate to put the string through. And Viola!
My large caterpillar was also made out of construction paper.
Of course I had to have fruit as part of the decor/food. MKR made my lovely labels, which I just added parts of the book to them. This allowed guests and kids to feel like the caterpillar =)
I had an arts and crafts table for the kids. My sister had the genius idea to add brown lunch paper bags to the table so the kids can decorate their own baggie for the pinata candy. For the pinata, I had a giant butterfly. I don't have a picture of the pinata.
Since I was on a budget, I went to costco and asked for cake with "happy birthday isabella" to left side of it and to leave it blank on the other side ($17). Took Bella's picture to Standlee's bake shop and had them print out an edible photo ($10). I used leftover gum balls ($1) to put around the cake to give it extra color. I paid a total of $28 for a cake that fed 48 people!!
Happy 3rd Birthday my Isabella!
